The Role

As an FX Artist at Untold Studios, you will be responsible for creating a broad range of physical and magical simulations and effects. You have an excellent eye for detail and can work across a variety of projects spanning advertising, long‑form and Real‑time. You create effects that look believable and are consistent with the overall look and feel of every individual project. You have a thorough understanding of the techniques and technologies that relate to both FX simulation and procedural animation. You are comfortable building scalable, team‑friendly fx set‑ups and thrive when working as a part of a team. You are highly motivated, solutions‑driven and can prototype ideas quickly and efficiently. You love analysing and solving problems. You have great ideas and want to share them. We are committed to supporting you and your ongoing development. We will work closely with you to establish a personal progression plan. You are never on your own.

Why you?

  • Producing a wide variety of effects in Houdini, including but not limited to fluid, cloth, fur/hair, POP particle and pyro simulations, alongside bullet simulation and constraint networks for destruction FX.
  • Good understanding of Vector & Matrix manipulation.
  • Balancing the desired level of aesthetic quality with technical accuracy, often exploring different approaches in order to interpret complex creative briefs to deliver outstanding effects.
  • Shading, lighting and rendering with Mantra or Arnold and supplying FX renders to compositing.
  • Creating set‑ups and tools that work for you and the wider team.
  • Working alongside other departments to ensure that shots are delivered to the highest possible standard.
  • Contributing to discussions around Houdini FX pipeline and tools.
  • Communicating your thoughts and ideas clearly in a professional and positive manner.
  • Managing time efficiently through multitasking and prioritising tasks.
  • Interpreting direction and addressing constructive feedback to improve shots.
  • Proactively developing and sharing ideas with peers and the team.
  • An understanding of Python and VEX is desirable as is any experience using PDG.
