The Role: We are seeking a cloud architect to join our team of Technologists to design, build, and innovate our existing cloud infrastructure that supports our cutting‑edge visual effects studio. You will architect scalable solutions that enable artists to work seamlessly across multi‑datacenter environments, evaluate and adopt emerging cloud services and VFX cloud technologies, and drive the evolution of our cloud‑native workflows. This role combines strategic infrastructure design, requiring both vision and pragmatism to balance innovation, performance, and cost efficiency.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design and architect new cloud‑based production capabilities and workflows
- Evaluate and prototype emerging cloud services and VFX cloud technologies
- Optimise existing cloud infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and cost tracking systems
- Manage cloud storage solutions (Weka, Qumulo and similar high‑performance storage)
- Design and implement multi‑datacenter/multi‑region strategies
- Collaborate with the pipeline team on cloud resource requirements
- Ensure security, compliance, and disaster recovery best practices
- Work with various teams, including developers, security, and executive leadership, to align technology with business goals
- Research and implement next‑generation storage and data movement solutions
- Partner with the pipeline team to enable new production methodologies
- Create proof‑of‑concepts for business‑critical initiatives
Required Skills:
- 5+ years AWS (or other cloud) experience with proven architecture expertise
- Knowledge of EC2 instance types, families, and fleet management (Spot, On‑Demand, Reserved)
- Expertise in AWS services: S3, EC2, VPC, Route53, IAM, CloudWatch, Cost Explorer
- Experience with cloud storage performance optimisation and data transfer
- Strong understanding of cloud cost management
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Multi‑region architecture and datacenter connectivity experience
- Networking fundamentals: VPN, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, subnetting, routing
- Linux system administration (Rocky Linux/RHEL experience preferred)
Highly Desired but not essential:
- Software development experience within cloud environments
- Experience setting up Autodesk Flame in cloud environments (AWS) – huge plus
- Understanding of media/entertainment workflows and streaming protocols such as NDI and CDI
- Familiarity with render farm architecture or HPC workloads
- Previous work in VFX, animation, or post‑production environments
