About The Role
- Level A – $113K – $121K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 12 months
- Full-time (35 hours per week)
The Teaching Fellow enhances existing links between UNSW Sydney and secondary schools and provides an opportunity for sharing ideas about the circumstances of first year students and approaches to teaching. Flexible work arrangements may be considered for applicants from regional, rural or remote schools.
About UNSW and School Context
The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a large academic and research staff, with strengths across Bayesian and Monte Carlo Methods, Biostatistics and Ecology, Combinatorics, Data Science, Finance and Risk Analysis, Nonparametric Statistics, Optimisation, Stochastic Analysis and Stochastic Modelling. The School hosts the UNSW Data Science Hub and collaborates across the University to promote foundational and applied research in Data Science.

Responsibilities
- Deliver mathematics tutorials and other teaching for up to 12 hours per week.
- Carry out teaching-related activities as allocated by the Head of School (or delegate), such as class preparation, records administration, informal consultations with students, exam supervision, marking, and other coordination duties.
- Depending on interest and capacity, undertake lecturing and engage in mathematical research or scholarship.
- Assist in course assessment, administration, curriculum development and outreach activities.
- Undertake administrative duties as specified by the Head of School and/or the Director, First Year Studies.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with health and safety policies and take reasonable care to ensure safety of self and others.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
- Degree in Mathematics or related discipline.
- Demonstrated strong mathematical background.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching mathematics with recent involvement in teaching mathematics in years 11 and 12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interest in promoting mathematical thinking in schools and the community.
- Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, with knowledge of relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
