Teaching Fellow - Education Focused - Physics. Join to apply for the Teaching Fellow role at UNSW. The School of Physics is a leading physics school in Australia, offering a world class undergraduate physics degree and a postgraduate PhD program. UNSW is a centre for quantum computing research and hosts multiple ARC Centres.
The Teaching Fellow participates in teaching activities in the School of Physics and provides assistance for course assessment, administration and curriculum development. The role supports the teaching of first year physics students, ensuring high quality teaching in laboratory sessions and problem-solving workshops, and uses knowledge of high school students to aid their transition to university. The Fellow will assist in developing resources for high school teachers as part of graduate certificates and professional development offerings from the School of Physics.
Responsibilities
- Teach first year physics courses including lectures, laboratory sessions, online courses, and problem-solving workshops.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of professional development modules, depth studies for high school teachers, and school excursions, including reviewing existing materials and developing new materials.
- Assist with creation and revision of course material; maintain teaching materials and resources including lab manuals and Moodle sites.
- Develop and implement new experiments in liaison with the First Year Director.
- Assist with marking examinations, lab reports, assignments and tests in first year physics.
- Cooperate with the First Year Director and other teaching and professional staff to ensure effective management of teaching activities in first year physics.
- Identify and control hazards and risks for tasks, projects and activities that pose health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
- Align with and demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values; comply with health and safety policies and procedures to protect health and safety of yourself and others.
About The Role
- Salary: 91K - 121K plus 9.5% superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 12 months
- Full-time (35 hours per week)
About The Successful Applicant
- Undergraduate degree in Physics or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching physics with involvement in teaching physics in years 11 and 12.
- Ability to use ICT effectively to create and modify online material.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively and foster harmonious workplace relations.
- Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
