Role Overview
UNSW Rural (Port Macquarie campus) brings world‑class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6‑year medical course at our rural campuses across several locations. This Education‑Focused (EF) lecturer role enables academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high‑quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. The Lecturer, Rural (EF) will be committed to high‑quality teaching with a strong focus on local rural medical education with a special emphasis on the discipline of surgery.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a central role in delivering innovative, high‑quality teaching, supporting student progression, and strengthening partnerships across rural health networks. Working collaboratively with clinical teams and academic colleagues, you will enhance learning experiences through contemporary teaching approaches and real‑world clinical integration. Your expertise will directly support student immersion in rural healthcare settings, helping to build capacity and improve health outcomes in regional communities.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- A BMedMD or MBBS, and currency of medical registration in New South Wales.
- Demonstrated experience in a particular field of medicine and a commitment to high quality rurally focused teaching, including multi‑disciplinary and inter‑professional learning activities.
- Proven record of achievement demonstrating excellence in teaching and supervision at undergraduate level with a proven commitment to rural health education.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a record of solid achievement contributing to administration in academic and/or professional environments.
- Demonstrated experience in large and small group teaching within relevant discipline, and ability to apply knowledge and modern medical curricula and teaching methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and coordinating student assessment and examinations including using educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Demonstrated successful interaction and involvement with relevant authorities, professional organisations, research and training institutes and health networks.
- High‑level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff, including in a team environment.
