Senior Research Fellow (Child Health Services Research) – UNSW

Location: Randwick Clinical Campus, Sydney NSW. Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week). Duration: 2-year fixed-term contract. Remuneration: Level C $155k – $178k base + 17% Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading. Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is available for this position.

About The Role

The Population Child Health (PCH) Research Group is an integrated, multidisciplinary clinical research team working across Australia and internationally from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Randwick precinct and Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN). We conduct translational health services and health systems research to optimise child health outcomes and address inequities, focusing specifically on priority populations, integrating care and the first 2000 days.

Why this role matters

The Senior Research Fellow, Child Health Services Research is expected to make independent and synergistic contributions to child health research within the PCH Research Group, UNSW. The position is suited to an experienced academic who can demonstrate leadership and initiative in driving research strategy, collaboration, and outcomes.

The Senior Research Fellow will contribute to high-quality publications, competitive grant acquisition, and meaningful partnerships aimed at improving health service delivery and health outcomes for children and young people. The role involves collaboration with clinicians, health services, policymakers, academic partners, and mentorship to students, groups and colleagues.

The role of Senior Research Fellow reports to the Professor and has no other direct reports.

Skills Required

  • A PhD in health services research, epidemiology, psychology or non-lab-based child health research.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Experience in translation intervention research will be preferred.
  • Proven ability to generate grant income.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
