Why Your Role Matters

The School of Science is one of five schools at UNSW Canberra and is home to six disciplines: Aviation, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Oceanography. We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the School and contribute to our growing strengths in experimental condensed matter physics.

In this dynamic role, you will combine research and teaching to make a meaningful impact. You will contribute to curriculum design and course delivery, build a vibrant research portfolio, and share your expertise through high-quality publications, grant applications, and supervision of students. You will also play an active role in the administration and collegial life of the School.

This position will be filled at either Academic Level C or Level D, depending on experience.

Who You Are (skills And Experience)

  • A PhD in experimental condensed matter physics or a related discipline.
  • Expertise in cryogenic techniques and in performing measurements at low temperatures.
  • Demonstrated track record in experimental Condensed Matter Physics research.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
  • Associate Professor Level D (in addition to Level C skills):
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
  • Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high international impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.
