About the Role
The Senior Research Fellow (Level B) will carry out independent and/or team research within the field in which they are appointed and develop expertise. Focus on comparative and translational systems neuroscience, linking rodent electrophysiology with human neuroimaging using OP‑MEG. Conduct independent research, collaborate across disciplines, support planning of a new OP‑MEG facility scheduled for completion in 2028, and develop ethics documentation and SOPs.

- Conduct research under limited supervision, independently or as part of a team.
- Establish a personal research portfolio and develop independent proposals.
- Contribute to competitive funding applications under guidance of senior colleagues.
- Participate as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
- Design research projects.
- Lead and collaborate on studies combining rodent single‑unit/LFP recordings with human OP‑MEG and behavioural data, and develop cross‑species experiments.
- Develop data‑processing workflows for large‑scale neural recording and OP‑MEG datasets.
- Contribute to scientific and operational planning for the new OP‑MEG facility: visit other facilities, advise on requirements, review data‑storage solutions, procure equipment, establish SOPs for project reviews and approvals.
- Lead preparation, submission and management of ethics applications for animal and human research, ensuring compliance with legislation and guidelines.
- Build collaborations with researchers in rodent electrophysiology, human neuroimaging, computational modelling and clinical/translational neuroscience.
- Provide day‑to‑day guidance, mentoring and technical support to students and junior researchers.
- Advocate good research practice, reproducibility and adherence to health and safety procedures.
- Align with the Code of Conduct and Values.
Selection Criteria (Qualifications)
- A PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science or closely related discipline with focus on systems neuroscience.
- Demonstrated expertise in chronic in vivo rodent electrophysiology and/or human MEG/OP‑MEG.
- Experience designing or analysing comparative studies bridging human and rodent neuroscience.
- Strong quantitative and programming skills; experience developing reproducible analysis pipelines or open‑source tools for large neural datasets.
- High‑quality research outputs: first‑author publications or preprints in recognised neuroscience or related journals, plus collaborative work.
- Proven ability to attract research funding, including fellowships and grants suitable to career stage.
- Experience with human and/or animal research ethics and regulatory/data‑governance requirements.
- Involvement in establishing new experimental setups or facilities.
- Experience mentoring junior researchers or students, fostering inclusive lab culture.
- Commitment to open‑science practices, code and data sharing, reproducible workflows.
- High‑level communication skills; effective networking with diverse students and staff.
- Teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, building effective relationships.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
