Overview

The research group of Professor Andrea Morello is seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate / Senior Research Associate to explore quantum gravity and hybrid quantum systems. The group specializes in developing quantum hardware based on implanted donor spins integrated with silicon nanoelectronic devices. The project aims to extend this to mechanical devices operating at the quantum level.

Location

This position is based in Australia, in Kensington, Sydney.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental research and collaborate with external partners on theoretical activities.
  • Demonstrate quantum-mechanical coupling between a single nuclear spin in silicon and the quantized motion of a mechanical resonator.
  • Develop hybrid quantum systems to test theories on quantum mechanics and gravity.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in mechanical systems at the quantum limit, nano- and opto-mechanics, circuit-QED, and hybrid quantum systems.

Remuneration

  • Research Associate – Level A: AUD $110,059 to $117,718 + 17% superannuation.
  • Senior Research Associate – Level B: AUD $123,620 to $145,730 + 17% superannuation.

Contract Details

Full-time, fixed-term for 3 years with possible extension.

Qualifications & Skills

Research Associate (Level A)

  • PhD in quantum physics, quantum engineering, or related field (or soon to be awarded).
  • Experience operating and measuring nano-mechanical devices with quantum behavior.
  • Skills in designing and fabricating nanometer-scale mechanical devices.
  • Strong publication record and ability to work independently and in teams.

Senior Research Associate (Level B)

  • PhD in quantum physics, quantum engineering, or related area.
  • Proven track record in nano-mechanical quantum devices and leadership in research.
  • Experience supervising students and managing research projects.
