Role details

  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration: 1-year fixed-term contract
  • Remuneration: Level C $91k – $121k base + 17% Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading
  • Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must have full rights to work in Australia to be considered.
  • Location: Randwick Clinical Campus, Sydney NSW

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will provide statistical and epidemiological support for intervention-based studies and grant applications. The role conducts research activities, including surveys, literature reviews, data collection and recording results using appropriate research methods under the guidance of a research leader. The role supports the dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels, and involves presenting at conferences and/or workshops. The role reports to the Head of the Population Child Health research group and has no direct reports. The goal is to improve the health, wellbeing and development of children and young people locally, nationally and internationally.

Qualifications and skills

  • A PhD in Epidemiology/Statistics or related discipline, and/or appropriate level of expertise gained from experience, training and/or professional accreditation.
  • Competency in statistical software (R, SAS and/or Stata) with experience working with large datasets.
  • Experience in design and evaluation of trials is beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research (study design, grant writing, ethics applications) and to conduct independent research with limited supervision, with strong prioritisation and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge updates in the field.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and familiarity with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and willingness to undertake relevant health and safety training.
