About The Role

  • Position: Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level A)
  • Salary: Level A – $113K – $121K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed term – 3 years
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute independently and as a team member in collaborative research on the mathematics associated with encodings of phylogenetic trees and networks, and outcomes linked to ARC DP260102678.
  • Conduct research (as per discipline norms) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output recognised by peers.
  • Occasional teaching as required.
  • Undertake specific research projects under the guidance of the grant CIs (Prof Francis, Prof Tanaka, and Dr Hendriksen) and contribute to development of research activities.
  • Support dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.
  • Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities (e.g., literature reviews, computational investigations, development and proof of new mathematical results).
  • Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.
  • Assist with supervision of research students where required.
  • Assist in development of research funding proposals as required.
  • Align with UNSW Values in Action and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with health and safety policies and take care to ensure actions do not impact health and safety of self or others.

The Successful Applicant

  • A PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, with expertise in combinatorics, group theory, and/or graph theory; experience in modelling biological processes, and algorithm development or computation is valuable.
  • Commitment to staying up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research and work with limited supervision.
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and students.
  • Understanding of and commitment to UNSW aims, objectives, and values with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
