About The Role
Research and teaching staff are responsible for contributing to the School’s and the Faculty’s teaching programs, research, and engagement activities, and to carry out the duties expected of an academic at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, as appropriate. Successful appointees will be expected to develop and maintain a strong program of individual research and to participate actively in the School’s and Faculty’s research culture, and to convene and teach courses in the Faculty’s LLB, JD and LLM programs. The role reports to the Head of School, Global and Public Law and has no direct reports aside from casual Teaching Fellows.
Key Skills And Experience Required For Level B
- A PhD in Law or a related discipline (or equivalent).
- Capacity for high-quality research publications and clear research plans.
- Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively at tertiary level, including experience in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods.
- Ability to teach core LLB/JD/LLM courses in Public Law, including Principles of Public Law, Administrative Law and Federal Constitutional Law; Law in the Global Context (incorporating both public and private international law); or Core LLM modules (Global Common Law Systems and Legal Concepts, Research and Writing).
- Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication, relationship building and organisational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively and contribute to the School’s service and engagement activities.
- Evidence of the capacity to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
For Level C (in addition to the above)
- A demonstrated track record of research, with evidence of publications of high quality and impact, and the capacity for research leadership.
- Capacity to successfully recruit and/or supervise high calibre HDR students, and experience in chairing and/or participating in HDR confirmation and review panels.
- Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively at tertiary level, including experience in developing and implementing innovative teaching methods.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and convene core LLB/JD/LLM courses in one or more of the following areas: Public Law, including Principles of Public Law, Administrative Law and Federal Constitutional Law; Law in the Global Context (incorporating both public and private international law); or Core LLM modules (Global Common Law Systems and Legal Concepts, Research and Writing).
- Demonstrated experience in educational design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including experience involving educational technologies and using online delivery methods.
- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, relationship building and organisational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively and contribute to the School’s service and engagement activities.
- Evidence of the capacity to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
