Position based in Australia. This role may be appointed as Education Focused (EF) or Teaching & Research (T&R), depending on the successful candidate’s profile and experience.
In the Education Focused (EF) stream, the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor plays a central role in delivering high-quality, innovative teaching and enhancing the student experience within the physiotherapy program. The role focuses on curriculum design, development and continuous improvement, with emphasis on musculoskeletal physiotherapy and related areas such as anatomy. The position supports evidence-based teaching, fosters an inclusive and engaging learning culture, and contributes to curriculum innovation, accreditation activities, and engagement with the profession. At Associate Professor level, the role provides leadership in teaching excellence, curriculum development, and mentoring within UNSW’s Education Focused community.
In the Teaching & Research (T&R) stream, the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor contributes to high-quality teaching and a strong program of research with national and international impact. The role includes teaching within physiotherapy programs (including musculoskeletal physiotherapy) and developing an independent research agenda. The successful candidate will advance disciplinary knowledge, secure research funding, supervise higher degree research candidates, and build collaborative research partnerships. At Associate Professor level, the role includes leadership in research, mentoring of staff and students, and driving innovation across teaching, research and clinical translation, contributing to a high-performing academic environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- For Education Focused (EF) Stream
- At Level C: A PhD in Physiotherapy or related health/medical disciplines; Registration with AHPRA as a physiotherapist in Australia; commitment to proactive maintenance of discipline knowledge and development; clinical expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy; ability to contribute to related areas within the School of Health Sciences; commitment to evidence-based practice including application, translation, or teaching of research evidence; experience in teaching and learning design and delivery of courses and programs at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- At Level D (in addition to the above): Significant experience in teaching and learning design using diverse pedagogical approaches; demonstrated professional development in teaching and a strong track record of teaching excellence; curriculum development and improvement; a track record in research with high quality, high impact outcomes and leadership potential.
- At Level C: A PhD in Physiotherapy or related health/medical disciplines; Registration with AHPRA as a physiotherapist (or eligibility and willingness to seek registration); clinical expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy; demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice; significant track record in research leadership with high quality, international impact; experience in teaching and learning design for undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs.
- At Level D (in addition to the above): Extensive experience in teaching and learning design with diverse pedagogical approaches; leadership in building engagement with the profession and industry; strong track record in research with high quality and impact and capacity for leadership; experience in recruiting and supervising HDR students.
Remuneration and Benefits
Remuneration: Academic Level C/D $155K- $200K (based on experience) + 17% super + annual leave loading. Location: Kensington Campus, New South Wales. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold unrestricted work rights to be considered for this position.
