Overview
Lecturer, Rural – Clinical Skills & Simulation (EF) at UNSW Rural, Port Macquarie. The role focuses on high-quality teaching with an emphasis on local rural medical education and clinical skills development within the Education Focused (EF) specialization.
Responsibilities
- Deliver rurally focused content in lectures, tutorials and small group teaching; assess learning achievements and contribute to innovation in learning activities for basic sciences, clinical coursework and skills development.
- Support student learning progression in clinical skills techniques; provide expert guidance on multidisciplinary healthcare teams to improve patient and health professional outcomes; assess student learning achievements.
- Develop and pursue local research initiatives with LHD and primary health care networks; superviseIndependent Learning Project (ILP) students where appropriate.
- Collaborate with peers across Rural Clinical Campuses and Faculty to build productive relationships and partnerships.
- Support recruitment of rural students in the Rural Entry Admissions Pathway (REAP), including interview training and participation in rural campus interviews.
- Demonstrate a track record of effective practical teaching and supervision at undergraduate level with a commitment to rural medical and health education; apply teaching methodologies in health education including online delivery and educational technologies.
- Demonstrate highly developed communication and organisational skills; network effectively with a diverse range of students and staff in a team environment.
Qualifications
- A BMedMD, MBBS and a Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College and eligibility for medical registration in New South Wales; or a qualification in a relevant health discipline with current registration maintained with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Proven ability to inspire student learning and engage learners in the local rural medical and health environment.
- Experience preparing and delivering rurally focused content across lectures, tutorials and small group teaching; ability to assess learning, mark, examine and innovate learning activities for basic sciences, clinical coursework and skills development.
- Ability to support student learning progression in clinical skills techniques and application; guidance on multidisciplinary team benefits and student assessment.
- Experience developing local research initiatives with health networks and supervising ILP students as appropriate.
- Experience in large and small group teaching, online delivery and the use of educational technologies.
- Strong communication and organisational skills; ability to work with diverse students and staff in a team environment.
Employment Details
- Employment Type: Part-time (3.5 hours per week)
- Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30 June 2026
- Remuneration: base salary $127,947 pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation, leave loading and clinical loading
- Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia
- Location: Port Macquarie, NSW
