This job is based in Australia and is a full-time position located in Sydney, NSW. The role is for a Senior Research Fellow in the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program at the Kirby Institute, with a duration of 3 years fixed term.

Position Summary
The Senior Research Fellow will lead high-quality research to improve the detection, prevention, and treatment of viral hepatitis and drug user health. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and delivering epidemiological studies, clinical effectiveness studies, and clinical trials.
- Contributing to research excellence and competitive grant funding.
- Translating evidence into policy and practice.
At Level C, the role requires independent contributions to research, establishing a nationally recognised profile, leading projects, publishing outputs, and mentoring research staff. At Level D, the role includes strategic leadership across the program, leading major funding applications, and driving research translation into practice.
Key Skills Required
At Level C:
- A PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, infectious diseases, drug user health, or a related discipline.
- Expertise in designing and analysing epidemiological studies and/or clinical trials.
- Strong track record of high-quality research outputs and publications.
- Experience in statistical analysis and management of complex datasets using software such as R, Stata, SAS, or Python.
- Success in obtaining competitive research funding.
- Capacity to lead research projects and collaborate effectively.
- Experience working with health services and community organisations relevant to viral hepatitis and drug user health.
At Level D (in addition to the above):
- Evidence of an established international research profile.
- Sustained success in securing competitive research funding as lead investigator.
- Leadership of major multidisciplinary research collaborations.
- Influencing policy and public health strategy through research translation.
