The Role β€” Psychologist, Clinical AI:

Nova is Unmind's AI wellbeing coach and the centre of our product offering. Its value to clients depends on it being demonstrably effective, safe, and continually improving. We're hiring a Psychologist, Clinical AI to join a small, ambitious clinical AI function and drive the day-to-day clinical work behind Nova's in-product measurement, safety, and structured experience programmes.

What you'll do:

  • Drive the day-to-day clinical delivery of how we measure user outcomes inside Nova at scale, in close partnership with our research and data science functions.
  • Help shape the clinical design of Nova's structured wellbeing experiences, including the safety architecture that sits underneath them.
  • Run the day-to-day evaluation, rubric, and safety-testing work that helps govern Nova's clinical quality, from gold-standard responses to red-teaming and escalation protocols.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, whitepapers, and the clinical evidence base that supports Nova.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, Commercial, InfoSec, and external academic partners to embed evidence-based thinking in how Nova is built and governed.

About You:

In the spirit of equity and continuous growth, we invite you to remove education from your CV. Qualifications are not a factor in our decision-making. However, some experience in the following is important for this position:

Essential:

  • Registered or accredited with a recognised UK clinical body (for example HCPC as a practitioner psychologist, or BABCP as an accredited CBT/behavioural psychotherapist), or an equivalent route into clinical practice, including qualified clinicians without a doctorate and international equivalents. Candidates who are eligible but not yet registered/accredited will complete this on joining.
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical risk assessment and management, gained through clinical placements, post-qualification practice, or equivalent settings.
  • Demonstrable fluency in evidence-based behaviour change, coaching, and psychological frameworks (e.g. ACT, FACT, third-wave CBT).
  • Experience translating these frameworks into structured artefacts that others can put into practice (e.g. AHPs, peer supporters, coaches, product and engineering teams).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate clinical thinking for product, engineering, and scientific audiences.

Strongly desirable:

  • HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical, Counselling, or Health), with doctoral-level training (DClinPsy, DCounsPsych, DHealthPsy, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs in a clinical or mental health context: prompt design, rubric and evaluation design, and structured clinical testing.
  • Psychometric or computational methods experience – instrument validation, item response theory, latent variable modelling, LLM-as-judge evaluation design, or peer-reviewed measurement work.

Nice to have:

  • Working proficiency in Python and/or R with SQL, and/or exposure to red-teaming or safety-evaluation methods for human-facing AI.

Tip for candidates: If you're unsure whether to apply – do. We know great people don't always tick every box.

Life at Unmind: We believe wellbeing and performance go hand-in-hand – and we build our environment to support both.

  • Private medical for you & your family
