NQP Speech and Language Therapist, Mixed Post: School & Community
We are looking for someone who has recently qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist (HCPC registration required) who is passionate about working with children and young people in diverse educational and community settings and brings energy, empathy and curiosity to their work and values teamwork, reflection and continuous development.
Main duties of the job
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an NQP ready to begin their SLT career in a dynamic and supportive environment. They will work across community and school settings with a structured mix of clients and support:
- 3 days per week in a school setting
- 2 days per week working with community clients, including children in mainstream schools and homes.

Key Responsibilities
- Assessment: Conduct detailed assessments to identify speech, language, and communication needs in children using a range of standardised and non-standardised tools and observations, along with case history taking.
- Diagnosis: Accurately diagnose a range of speech, language and communication disorders and provide verbal and written feedback to parents, carers and/or schools as appropriate.
- Treatment Planning and Intervention: Collaboratively develop and implement individualized therapy plans, creating SMART targets to address the client’s areas of need. Use evidence-based practices to address speech, language, and communication disorders.
- Collaboration: Work closely with families, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to therapy.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary. Document and report on patient progress through written target updates and verbal feedback.
- Education and Training: Provide training and advice to families, educational staff, and other professionals on how to support the child’s speech and language development.
- Clinical Governance and Professional Development: Engage in continual professional development to keep abreast of the latest research and techniques in pediatric speech and language therapy. Engage in regular supervision as part of professional growth.
- Resource Development: Create and adapt resources to meet individual children\’s needs.
- Ethical and Legal Compliance: Ensure all activities are in compliance with professional standards and legal regulations.
- Caseload Management: Effectively manage a clinic caseload, including updating records, booking sessions and completing required admin (e.g., reports and case notes) within a specified time frame.
Qualifications
A Bachelors or Masters degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.

- Spoken and written language at equivalent to level 8 of the International English Language Testing System.

- Willingness to take on additional duties as and when required to serve the interests of clients and support colleagues.
