To provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children with feeding, swallowing, and complex communication needs across community and clinic settings. The post holder will manage a complex caseload, support families and multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to service development.
Main duties of the job:
Clinical Responsibilities- Independently manage a specialist caseload with:
- Dysphagia
- Communication difficulties associated with complex needs
- Direct intervention
- Parent/carer coaching
- Training for school and care staff
- Parents and carers
- School and nursery staff
- Support staff and wider professionals
Experience working with:
- Paediatric feeding and dysphagia
- Children with complex needs
- Experience across community and/or clinic settings
Advanced knowledge of:
- Paediatric dysphagia assessment and management
- Complex communication needs
Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
Ability to work autonomously and prioritise
Confidence delivering training and supervision

Job responsibilities OVERVIEW: This is a key leadership position within our outpatient clinical team, ideal for a seasoned therapist ready to influence service design, clinical standards, and team development. The Band 7 SLT will manage a complex caseload of children and young people aged 0-25, many of whom present with co-occurring diagnoses and are from ethnically and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Our outpatient service is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and integrates evidence-based intervention with creativity and innovation. You will also have the opportunity to support our clinic-to-school transition model, working collaboratively with families, SENCOs, and external health teams.
Our outpatient caseload reflects the rich multicultural communities of East and Greater London, including children from refugee and asylum-seeking families, bilingual and multilingual households, and communities with limited access to healthcare. Therapists are expected to embed culturally responsive and neuro-affirming approaches into all aspects of care.
