About the role

Brunel University of London is seeking talented and committed individuals to join its Council, the governing body responsible for shaping the University’s strategic direction and ensuring its continued success. This role offers a valuable opportunity to contribute expertise to a dynamic London institution, working alongside a diverse group of accomplished professionals to support Brunel’s vision, values and charitable objectives. Council Members play a key role in setting strategy, safeguarding financial sustainability and academic excellence, and providing independent, constructive challenge to the executive, while also acting as ambassadors for the University. As a Council Member, you will contribute to strategic planning and non-executive oversight, monitoring performance against objectives, ensuring strong governance and compliance with regulatory frameworks, and acting as a steward of the University’s resources and assets. The Council meets regularly throughout the year, alongside committee work and key University events, requiring an annual commitment of approximately 10 days. Operating under its Royal Charter, the Council maintains responsibility for overall governance, including appointing senior leaders, while delegating operational management to the Vice-Chancellor and executive team, supported by a range of specialist sub-committees.
