Independent Members of the Remuneration Committee
The Remuneration Committee determines the remuneration and benefits of senior post-holders and the Vice-Chancellor, save for the initial terms and conditions for the Vice-Chancellor, which are established by Council.
The Remuneration Committee consists of six members and is chaired by an independent member of the Council. Its primary function is to provide advice, guidance, and insight to the Council on the performance, development and remuneration of senior staff. It is responsible for determining salaries, approving terms and conditions for senior officers, approving severance terms, and reviewing and approving the gender pay gap report. Additionally, the Committee approves recommendations for salary supplements in lieu of pension contributions to staff.
The University of Roehampton is seeking two Remuneration Committee Members with extensive strategic Human Resources (HR) experience to support the Committee. They will advise the University on a breadth of key HR issues, including remuneration. They will act as a critical friend and bring scrutiny whilst providing people-centric advice to the wider Committee.
For one role, the University is looking for candidates with strong expertise in executive compensation. Experience in a highly regulated sector would be valuable and previous experience on a Remuneration Committee would be advantageous, but is by no means essential.
For the other role, the University would welcome candidates with senior leadership experience in HR, employee benefits, organisational development, transformational change, strategy, finance, or operations. While an HR background is not essential, a strong grasp of remuneration and reward structures is necessary. Previous pensions expertise would be seen as advantageous but is not essential.
The University is committed to providing opportunities for training and development to all of its Committee Members. Though previous Committee or Board experience isnโt necessary, the successful candidates will demonstrate a clear understanding of the nuances between an executive and non-executive role.
Above all, they will be committed to the values of the University and will have a strong personal commitment to the Nolan Principles of public service and the principles of diversity and equal opportunities.
