Staffordshire University now seeks two new Governors with backgrounds in property or sustainability to join the Board.

Property

The successful individual will bring senior leadership experience in property / estates, surveying, architecture and / or property development, having been involved in large building projects. This individual will be reviewing the strategic building and acquisition opportunities for the University. The successful candidate will ideally have operated in a similar context with multiple sites / buildings and have worked on projects of a similar scale and complexity. Capital building experience can come from their executive or non-executive careers (for example, as a Board member of a commercial construction company).

Sustainability

The successful individual will have senior leadership experience spearheading environmental initiatives and embedding sustainability practices. They will be responsible for strategically assessing the University’s environmental footprint, driving ambitious sustainability goals, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. A deep understanding of relevant regulations and a passion for positive change are key.

Previous non-executive experience is not necessary and a full on-boarding programme will be offered to the successful candidate.

New Governors will be passionate, driven advocates for the organisation as a civic University, helping to open up opportunities and generate real social value.

The Board of Governors is made up of independent Governors, two staff Governors, two student Governors, and the Vice Chancellor (ex officio). The Independent Governors bring valuable and diverse experience from business, community, education and industry.

As well as being advocates for the University, its staff and students, Governors have strategic oversight of the Institution’s activities, which are delivered and managed by the University Executive Board. They make sure that the strategic plan is being delivered, that the University is delivering on its mission to transform people, transform places and transform society and that the University’s KPIs are delivered.

In return, Staffordshire’s Governors receive support to develop their professional skills, gain valuable board-level strategic experience within a successful organisation with a £170m turnover, and have the chance for considerable networking opportunities. Furthermore, the University supports Governors with a comprehensive onboarding programme together with professional development opportunities which are fully-funded.
