The University of West London is seeking to appoint four exceptional individuals as Governor, and three Co-opted Members with appropriate Board experience to join us as we enter our next phase of ambitious growth.

UWL is a distinctive university that prides itself on delivering career-focused courses and providing a great student experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone dynamic and collaborative to play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the University.

In an exciting period of strategic growth, UWL is currently at the beginning of a five-year plan and those appointed will be instrumental in helping the University maintain its position as a high-quality, employer-engaged university which reaches out to learners of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. The University is proud of its record in widening access to disadvantaged groups while offering an excellent student experience and the appointees will help to maintain and enhance this work.

Strong candidates will need to be strategically engaged, disciplined and thoughtful in their contribution, and diligent in developing a nuanced understanding of the institution and of Higher Education more generally. We have prioritised human resources, property and audit and risk as areas of technical expertise. The HR experience might be most useful for the role of Governor, and property expertise and experience relevant to audit and risk for the co-opted members, but we would also welcome applications from candidates with a broad spectrum of skills with Board level experience. We also wish to increase participation of women and ethnic minorities on the Board.

Candidates should ideally demonstrate experience of working at board level, preferably in a large complex organisation and/or with a high degree of regulation. Appointees to the Board will need to be sympathetic to the University’s mission and values.
