The Directorate of Estates is part of Professional Services at University of York. We are one of the teams that forms the operational, financial and administrative backbone for the University's smooth functioning. Our primary goal is to provide services and facilities that meet the needs both of the University and the broader community, as well as support the University's strategic objectives and commitment to public good by creating a stimulating learning, living and working environment.
This vacancy is to join our Estates Operations and Maintenance team which includes fully qualified and semi-skilled trades colleagues.
About the role
In this role you will ensure that all works comply with internal policy and processes, ensuring that works are well planned and communicated to those affected, with disruption minimised. Responsibilities will include ensuring that teams are efficiently and effectively organised to deliver a highly valued service to customers and that the wider Trades teams complete tasks in-house where value for money can be evidenced. You will work with and support the Maintenance Zone Managers to manage a large multi-skilled team of trades and maintenance staff with particular emphasis on issues of safety and technical standards. In this role you will have responsibility for Quality Assurance and continued development of the team and individuals. You will also support the compliance activities of Estates Operations and ensure the effective planning of works.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:
- Appropriate engineering/building services or facilities management qualifications or significant relevant experience in one of these areas.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of compliance regulations and issues.
- Ability to undertake work or attend campus ‘out of hours’.
- Ideally, you will also hold a full UK driving licence.
- Health and Safety qualifications such as IOSH and Asbestos awareness accreditation are also desirable in this role.
