Data Engineer (Leading UK University)

The Opportunity
The IT Services team at York have developed a strong DevOps and modern Software Engineering practice working on cloud based projects, as well as those hosted on our own data centres. This Data Engineer role will play a key part in further developing our data engineering and DataOps capability, by making full use of the latest cloud based data pipelines.

You\’ll join a dynamic team to transform data for system integration and analysis, developing robust data pipelines with modern practices like version control and automation. You\’ll contribute to data governance and collaborate with various data professionals. Beyond technical skills, a positive, adaptable, and eager-to-learn mindset is highly valued, with comprehensive training provided to support your growth.
Key Requirements

  • Level 3 qualification (see full list) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL.
  • Familiarity with data modelling concepts and techniques, such as data entity diagrams.
  • Ability to gather, analyse, interpret, and report complex data/information.
  • Experience with data warehouse systems (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Python or other modern programming languages. (desirable).
  • Awareness of legal issues related to data, such as the Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and Computer Misuse Acts. (desirable).
