We’re about to relaunch our Union – and we want you to be part of it! As the representative body for over 30,000 students at the University of Wolverhampton, ensuring our students have the best experience during their time at university is important to us, and to help this happen we’re hiring a Business Development Manager.
To contribute to the financial sustainability of the Students’ Union by generating commercial income through digital advertising, sponsorship, partnership development, venue hire, and commercial events. The role will proactively develop and maintain relationships with local and national businesses, manage a sales pipeline, and work towards agreed income targets through effective business development and client relationship management.
- Deliver against agreed monthly and annual income targets.
- Prepare and deliver sales pitches, proposals, quotations, and partnership packages.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and ensure accurate processing of sales activity.
- Support the development of new revenue streams and commercial opportunities.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local and national businesses, ensuring high levels of customer service and client retention.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with Students’ Union colleagues and relevant university staff.
- Maintain accurate records of client engagement and sales activity using a CRM system.
- Monitor, analyse, and regularly report on sales performance against agreed KPIs and targets, including pipeline activity, revenue generation, and partnership outcomes.
- Conduct market research to identify commercial opportunities and trends.
- Work with relevant internal teams to generate commercial income across campaigns, events, and venues.
- Manage the delivery and commercial promotion of events, including Welcome Week, commercial fairs, pop-up stalls, and sponsorship activities.
- Coordinate with the Events Assistants, Marketing Team, and wider staff teams to increase engagement at commercial events.
- Develop promotional opportunities for external businesses through on-campus activations and digital advertising activities.
- Maintain accurate records relating to venue hire, room bookings, and commercial activity through internal systems.
- Act as an ambassador for the Students’ Union and maintain positive professional relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with relevant organisational policies, including GDPR, health and safety, and financial procedures.
- Undertake other duties reasonably expected within the scope and level of the role.
