An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lecturer in Counselling to lead the development of a new programme within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. The post holder will take a key role in designing the curriculum for our new Foundation Degree (FdA) in Integrative Counselling. The programme will introduce students to three core therapeutic approaches — Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy — equipping them with the knowledge and skills to work effectively across diverse counselling settings. This is a chance to shape and inspire the future counselling workforce.
Our ideal candidate will bring experience of counselling within Higher Education and/or professional practice, alongside experience in a clinical setting in one or more counselling approaches. They will also be able to contribute to broader areas of the School's work, such as leadership and research. Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is essential. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the transformative impact of counselling and committed to high‐quality education.
The programme aligns closely with the Faculty's mission to promote health and wellbeing across physical, psychological, and social dimensions. It reinforces the importance of mental health within overall health and strengthens interdisciplinary links across nursing, sport, social work, and related fields.
The post holder will also contribute to teaching and learning across the wider School and Faculty. The role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with colleagues and local stakeholders to support the development and delivery of the Counselling programme.
If you are an experienced academic seeking your next challenge, or a clinician wanting to contribute to education and support the development of the future health and social care workforce, we would be delighted to hear from you.
