The University of Winchester is seeking to appoint a Fire Compliance Manager within the Health and Safety section of the Estates and Facilities Services Department. The role holder will provide oversight and management of Fire Safety in university owned or operated buildings and premises.

As our ideal candidate you will have strong knowledge in fire safety and experience in the production of fire risk assessments and strategies for a higher education or educational establishment, or similar organisations. You will hold a recognised qualification in fire safety, such as the NEBOSH Fire Safety Certification or equivalent qualification to comply with BS8674 Competency Framework for Fire Risk Assessors. Candidates will also ideally hold, or be eligible for, technical membership with a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Fire Engineers or the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

The Fire Compliance Manager will work to update the university fire risk assessments for all campus buildings and for managing any remedial actions, working with our in-house Maintenance and Project Management teams. Close liaison will also be essential with the appropriate building users, space owners, colleagues and external advisors to ensure fire compliance throughout the organisation.

The postholder will work closely on the development of PEEPS for students and staff and deliver fire warden training. The role holder will additionally provide oversight of the responsibilities and actions of others, as well as manage a number of maintenance, testing and inspection items related to fire compliance. These currently include statutory inspections, fire and security detection and alarm systems, dry risers, fire hydrants and electrical systems.

The post holder will be fully conversant with current fire legislation, approved codes of practice, British standards and building regulations that are applicable to the University’s premises. The University estate is varied and includes uses such as laboratories, catered spaces, specialist & general teaching facilities and on-site accommodation.
