The University of Winchester is looking for an 18th edition qualified electrician who is approachable and customer focused to join its busy maintenance team. The role holder will undertake new installations, fixing faults, maintain existing equipment and undertaking statutory testing.

The Maintenance department provides a proactive maintenance service across the estate, which comprises 77,500 m2 of building stock and houses around 1800 students in residence. The directly employed team comprises four Electricians, four Domestic Gas Engineers, one Carpenter, one Multi-Trade Operative and a Painter Decorator. All team members are expected to take a multiskilled approach, working outside of their traditional trade where required to provide an outstanding service to the customers of the University.

In addition to the 18th edition, the ability to test and inspect for our NICEIC approved contractor scheme would be very desirable along with a good understanding of health and safety in the workplace including working at height, asbestos awareness, COSHH etc.

The Maintenance department operates five days a week from 0800 to 1700 (1600 on a Friday). The role holder will be part of the callout team, providing out of hours cover every 1 week in 8 for any maintenance emergencies. A University vehicle is provided for the callout week for commuting and personal use. Occasional weekend working will be required for specific University events such as the annual arrivals weekend in September or occasional open days. Time off in lieu (TOIL) or overtime (subject to budget) will be given for weekend working when required.

The salary for this post is made up of the following components:

  • Full time annual salary £27,319 - £30,378 (based on 37 hours per week)
  • 2 hours contractual overtime per week £2,215 - £2,463 per annum
  • Market supplement of £2,500 per annum (subject to review every 2 years)
  • Callout allowance of £3,598 per annum
