The University of Winchester is looking for a suitably qualified, approachable and customer focused domestic gas engineer to join its busy Maintenance team. The role holder will undertake new installations, fix faults, maintain existing equipment and undertake statutory testing. The Maintenance department provides a proactive maintenance service across the estate, which comprises 77,500 m2 of building stock and houses around 1800 students in residence.

The directly employed team comprises 4 Domestic Gas Engineers, 4 Electricians, 1 Carpenter, 1 Multi Trade Operative and a Painter Decorator. All team members are expected to take a multiskilled approach, working outside of their traditional trade where required to provide an outstanding service to the customers of the University.

Applicants should hold ACS, CCN1, CPA1, MET1, CENWAT1 and UHW1 or be prepared to work towards them. Awareness of Legionella, ACOP L8 would be very desirable along with a good understanding of health and safety including working at height, asbestos awareness, COSHH etc. Experience of domestic plumbing and drainage would also be invaluable.

The Maintenance department operates 5 days a week from 0800 to 1700 (1600 on a Friday). The role holder will be part of the callout team, providing out of hours cover every 1 week in 8 for any maintenance emergencies. A University vehicle is provided for the callout week for commuting and personal use. Occasional weekend working will be required for specific University events such as the annual arrivals weekend in September and open days. Time off in lieu (TOIL) or overtime will be given for weekend working when required.
