The Department
We are currently recruiting for the post of Communications Officer (social media) to work within our busy and fast-paced Marketing department. You will join the Communications team which plays a central role in delivering on the University’s strategic plan and meeting its marketing and Student recruitment objectives. The Team is part of the Marketing, Recruitment and Communications Department which also includes Events, Campaigns, Digital, Recruitment and Admissions Teams.
The Role
The post holder will report to the Head of Communications and work within our busy and fast-paced Marketing department. This is a demanding and interesting role for an ambitious Communications professional or a recent graduate with the requisite skills and enthusiasm. The role will combine content creation, asset creation, social media reporting and conventional media relations (as required). The Communications Officer (social media) – will play a key role in promoting a positive image of the University across a range of digital channels.
Please note this is a full time role and the post holder is expected to be campus based.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- A recent graduate and/or ideally up to 2 years social media work experience (could include work experience while studying)
- Knowledge of Adobe and Canva (desirable)
Duties will include:
- Working collaboratively with stakeholders from across the University to promote the University’s message, mission and goals to key audiences.
- Devising and producing organic content for the University’s centrally managed social media channels (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tik Tok), with he goal of driving engagement with key audiences on these channels.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Social Media:
- Update and manage the University’s key centrally managed social media platforms which will include content creation and scheduling, site moderation, engagement/customer service and reporting.
- Devise a cross-channel content calendar with content aligned to university vision, values and commitments which can be viewed here: https://www.uwl.ac.uk/about-us/our-strategy
- Create compelling social media content using UWL’s established tone of voice
- Create and implement social media plans and strategies to support University campaigns and events.
- Liaise with key marketing colleagues to ensure optimisation of content creation
- Ensure that social media best practice is followed across the University and opportunities for positive coverage are maximised.
- Provide social media guidance/training for staff
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the UWL Students’ Union to support the delivery of student content/news on digital channels.
General:
- Undertake other appropriate tasks commensurate with the grade as required by the Head of Communications.
- In addition to the above areas of responsibility the position may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties relating to the broad scope of the position. The post holder will at times be required to work outside of normal office hours and some weekend work as required.
