An exciting opportunity is available to join the Department of Chemistry as a Teaching Fellow to contribute to developing and delivering high–quality Chemistry teaching. This fixed-term 36-month role will deliver teaching and assessment on undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes across the Chemistry disciplines, with a particular focus on analytical and inorganic chemistry.

You will be involved with delivery and development of lectures, tutorials and workshops to a range of cohort sizes on a variety of topics. You will contribute to laboratory-based teaching and associated assessment across a broad area of the undergraduate practical syllabus, along with assuming leadership for some aspects of analytical laboratory teaching, particularly within our postgraduate taught programmes.

Other duties may involve administration of teaching and assessment, along with involvement in our admissions and outreach activities.

The role would be suited to a highly motivated education focussed academic looking to join the Department of Chemistry to support teaching, learning and assessment activities including lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practical classes.

About You

You will have a good honours degree (minimum 2:1) in Chemistry or a closely related discipline and a postgraduate qualification (PhD) in Chemistry or a relevant discipline.

You will possess a breadth and depth of specialist knowledge, obtained through previous research, teaching or industrial experience, to develop and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessments materials in Chemistry, with a focus on analytical and/or inorganic chemistry.

You will be familiar with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning, obtained through previous experience of teaching in Higher Education. You will be able to use a range of delivery techniques to engage with and inspire students to facilitate effective learning.

You will contribute collegiately to the life and community of the Department by undertaking a variety of duties, such as supporting recruitment open days and outreach activities which may occasionally require weekend work.

You will have strong communication, IT, time management and organisational skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills with relevant experience of working independently and as part of a team.

You will understand equal opportunity issues and have experience of compliance with relevant practical health and safety regulations within in a higher education teaching context.

You will be committed to ongoing professional development of your pedagogical skills and knowledge.
