A two-year full-time Fixed Term Contract with potential for extension (ending no later than 31 December 2030). The Warwick Hartnoll Centre for Experimental Fuel Technology (HCEFT) offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a strategically important and rapidly growing area of research focused on next-generation battery and fuel cell technologies. HCEFT brings together world-class research teams from the School of Engineering, the Department of Chemistry, and WMG at the University of Warwick, with a mission to drive innovation in electrochemical energy technologies through a combination of applied development and scientific insight.
The Centre has facilities and expertise in electrochemistry, materials chemistry, spectroscopy, microscopy, modelling, and full device fabrication and testing, and focuses on developing advanced systems such as ammonia/methanol fuel cells and metal-based batteries (e.g. lithium, sodium, calcium), with other battery technologies also within scope.
We are recruiting a Research Fellow to join this venture in the School of Engineering, working on cutting-edge projects in the area of exploration of novel materials for batteries targeting electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage.

About You
You will hold a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent in a relevant subject, and will either have a PhD (or equivalent) in a related discipline such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability in research with evidence of quality research output in rechargeable batteries. You will bring strong subject knowledge and familiarity with relevant research methods and techniques, enabling you to contribute to ongoing research programs. Experience or potential in contributing to funding proposals and securing external research funding is highly desirable. You will collaborate effectively with academic and professional services colleagues across disciplines and institutions. IT skills should include proficiency in Microsoft Office and using digital tools to support research and presentations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong command of written and spoken English. Ability to manage time, stay organized, and work independently or as part of a team is essential.
If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted, offers may be made at Research Assistant on level 5; on successful award of your PhD you will be promoted to Research Fellow on level 6.
Qualifications & Experience
PhD in a related discipline or near submission (or equivalent); or a strong combination of relevant research experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science. Experience in electrochemistry, materials science, or related areas relevant to batteries and energy storage is desirable. Evidence of ability to plan and execute research with independence and collaboration across teams.
