This is an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to join Research and Impact Services (R&IS), a collegiate, vibrant and dynamic department that provides a vital contribution in supporting Warwick’s internationally leading research endeavours. R&IS is seeking a Research Development Officer, to provide pro-active support across research grants and contracts to world-class researchers within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The role will provide expert support to research-active staff to develop competitive grant applications, deliver a proactive programme of research development support and to research contracts. This shall include, for example:
- Delivery of funding workshops
- One-to-one support to academics on the development of multi-disciplinary research proposals
- Identifying funding opportunities with advice and guidance to academics on potential routes for their research
- Negotiation of contractual terms and conditions
- Cost and price calculations
- Advice and guidance in regard to Intellectual Property, ethics and governance
- Internal approval of applications and awards
The academic departments at Warwick have a highly collaborative approach to research. You should therefore have a proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including key administrators in other departments, external funders and institutions, representing the University’s interests at all times and to have a good track record in building productive relationships.
You will have a good honours degree, or equivalent, and have previous experience of working in a research environment, preferably within Higher Education or a research funding agency, although experience of working in industrial/government research is also welcomed. You will be a highly motivated, committed team member who can demonstrate an ability to work flexibly and accurately under pressure, often to tight deadlines. Prior experience of working with academic departments will be highly advantageous.
About The Department
The department of Research & Impact Services supports the delivery of internationally leading research & impact at the University of Warwick. This encompasses support for research strategy; research development; research grants & contracts; research ethics & governance; research culture; research impact; trusted research; the Research Excellence Framework (REF); research systems & data; statutory returns; programme management of institutional funds to support research & impact; research income planning; and responsibility for the co-ordination of institutional programmes & partnerships such as the Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights, The Alan Turing Institute (ATI), City of Culture (CoC), and Eutopia. R&IS also delivers the secretariat function for nine formal University committees.
Candidates are asked to note that Research & Impact Services has adopted hybrid working and candidates should therefore expect to be located on campus a minimum of three set days a week.
