This role will support project delivery and research in the field of "Robotics Laser Beam Welding" and "Advanced Laser Welding with Dynamic Beam Shaping" to meet the needs of industry and academic partners.
Support the welding process development, including selection of process parameters, development of welding strategies, operation of laser welding machines, analysis of data and reporting. To be successful, you will need to show experience in operating at least one state-of-the-art laser welding equipment. Some experience in microscopy and mechanical testing of welds is welcome. Able to report during meetings with stakeholders to define and review project requirements. Support the publication of research outcomes in appropriate journals of international standing. Attend and present research and project findings at professional conferences and contribute to the external visibility and profile of the department. This will also involve literature and internet searches as well as arranging meetings with senior management representatives and technical specialists from industry technology providers, academic staff within WMG, and other university departments. Assist with the development and delivery of knowledge transfer materials to disseminate and embed knowledge within project partners. Represent the university and WMG at national and international events and report outcomes to the Project Manager and others within the research group in a timely manner. Implement good health and safety practices in line with University policy, strategy and legislation.
