About The Role

The Deputy Director of Library & Archives is a senior leadership role, acting as principal deputy to the University Librarian and contributing to the strategic leadership and management of the Library and Archives. The postholder will lead key portfolios covering research and academic services and digital innovation, ensuring that library and archive services enable excellence in research, teaching, learning, and innovation, in alignment with institutional strategy. The role combines strategic planning, operational leadership, workforce development and sector engagement, with particular responsibility for transforming services in response to evolving digital, open, education and research-intensive environments.

About You

We are looking for a senior library and information professional who is ready to play a full and active role in the strategic leadership of the Library and Archives. You will bring a strong track record of leading complex service portfolios – particularly across research and academic services and digital innovation – and the credibility to represent the Library at the highest levels of the institution. You will have demonstrated experience of translating institutional strategy into operational reality, managing competing priorities with clarity and confidence, and building the kind of cross‑institutional relationships that make change happen.

About The Department

The Library & Archives are central to the delivery of the University strategy by providing a high-quality service to all of our stakeholders in the delivery of teaching, learning, research and our civic ambitions. About The University

We are a world‑leading research-intensive university founded in 1965. We are ranked 106th in the world and 8th in the UK. Additionally, 92% of our research is rated world‑leading or internationally excellent.
