About the Role
The School of Modern Languages and Cultures is implementing an ambitious strategic refresh that repositions SMLC as a national centre of excellence at the intersection of languages, cultures, AI, and digital technologies. Central to this is an Innovation Portfolio, a coordinated programme of curriculum development, research, and partnership activity that will shape the School’s offer as the discipline continues to evolve. This post is an integral part of that portfolio.
The post holder will join a collaborative team developing the proposals that will define SMLC’s new programme landscape, working with partners across the School, the Faculty of Arts, and the University. Colleagues with enthusiasm for developing new skills and ideas are actively welcomed into this process, and the portfolio is designed to grow from within the School’s existing community as much as from new appointments.
The post holder will play an active role in developing new programmes and modules that take SMLC’s expertise into new contexts and student communities. The School is expanding its offer into multilingualism, accessibility, and digital communication, and this post contributes to that direction. At a time of significant change for Modern Languages in the UK, this post offers an opportunity to contribute to a curriculum that is redefining what translation studies can offer students and society.
We are looking for a colleague with a strong grounding in translation and transcultural studies, a commitment to teaching excellence, and the enthusiasm to contribute to a department that is expanding its offer in new directions.
