This role will support the department's data-driven AI strategy to strengthen its role in UK manufacturing innovation. The researcher will be tasked with:
- Definition of requirements for real and synthetic data collection, aligned with project priorities, and providing best practice guidelines.
- Development of exploitation models, including licensing, IPR, and hosting data as a tangible product.
- Coordinating cross-cutting activities between research groups, IT, and business development to identify gaps and opportunities.
Responsibilities
The role is research focused and requires a researcher who can support theme leads within an internationally renowned university environment. As part of the role, the successful candidate will:
- Contribute to a growing project portfolio in data and applied AI in the manufacturing space.
- Conduct research on real and synthetic data collection methodologies.
- Deliver impact from data through AI training or other exploitation routes.
- Work as part of a team and collaborate with cross-cutting partners.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (e.g., data science) and have:
- A sustained track record of research in real and synthetic data collection.
- Experience delivering impact from data via AI or other exploitation pathways.
- Ability to work within a dynamic research environment.
- Capability to engage with a broad range of research groups, inferring their data challenges and formulating actionable plans aligned with the WMG strategy.
