Nature of the assignment:
The Innis College Writing Centre invites applications for up to four Writing Instructor positions. The Writing Centre offers 50-minute sessions to students. Instructors’ teaching is scheduled at the start of each term, and occurs typically in shifts of four hours, based on the Innis College Writing Centre needs. These positions will commence in September 2025. All positions are subject to budgetary approval.
Hours Of Work
Between 50 and 250 hours, subject to change based on Innis College Writing Centre needs.

To be determined at the start of the fall term, based on the Innis College Writing Centre needs.
- Please note, the delivery method for these positions is both online and in-person. Please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the College.
Sessional Dates Of Appointment
September 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
Salary
$55.46 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level I
$59.62 per hour (plus 6% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level I – Long Term
$59.62 per hour (plus 6% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level II
$61.04 per hour (plus 6% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level II – Long Term
$61.38 per hour (plus 6% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level II (priority)
$62.83 per hour (plus 6% vacation pay) for Writing Instructor Level II (priority) – Long term
- Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree from a recognized post-secondary institution. Demonstrated skills in writing clear prose. Experience teaching postsecondary students. The ability to teach a diverse body of students, one-on-one, to improve their writing and communication skills in an array of university-level assignments across the disciplines. The ability to teach both in-person and online.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as an instructor or teaching assistant in university-level courses with a strong writing component.
Description Of Duties
The chief duty of Writing Centre Instructors is to teach undergraduate students individually in university writing, especially organization, persuasive argument, and effective sentence-level expression. Instructors might also be asked to prepare instructional materials such as writing handouts, and to deliver group instruction in college program courses and/or in the Writing Plus series of workshops.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
