The post – REQ000380 – Research Policy and Information Systems Manager

This pivotal role will shape and support the development of an inclusive research environment at UWS. You will lead the development and implementation of research policies, promote responsible research practices, and advance open science and open access initiatives in collaboration with the Library Research and Cultural Services Team.

You will manage the institutional research information system (PURE), including the REF module, ensuring accurate and policy-compliant recording and reporting of research outputs. The role also involves producing strategic insights and briefings for senior leadership, coordinating institutional responses to sector-wide consultations, and representing UWS in external forums.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of research policies aligned with national frameworks and funder requirements.
  • Oversee the deployment and training for PURE, ensuring readiness for REF submissions.
  • Provide strategic insights and data-driven recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Represent UWS in sector-wide initiatives and consultations.
  • Manage a dedicated budget supporting responsible research assessment.
  • Line manage the research policy team and coordinate cross-functional delivery.

Qualifications

  • A degree and/or post graduate or professional qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development in research support, policy, and information management
  • Significant experience in academic libraries, research policy, or research support services
  • Experience of managing systems, audits, or compliance processes (e.g. REF, open access, research data)
  • Experience of leading cross-functional projects or service development
