About the vacancy

We have a vacancy to join the School of Applied Sciences as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science. The post holder will support students on our environmental and conservation science programmes by contributing to teaching and learning and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects across the discipline. The successful applicant will participate in single day and residential environmental science/conservation science field trips. There may be an opportunity to coordinate field trip activities, depending on experience. Occasionally, lecturers will be required to support teaching teams in other programmes within the School (e.g. Biological Sciences). There may also be the opportunity to contribute to research within the School, including within one of its research centres, such as the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE).

This is a full time 12-month (maternity cover) post offered at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending on experience. Experience and knowledge of aquatic environmental science (freshwater and/or marine) is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of oceanography, water quality assessment and more broadly aquatic sciences. Experience of conducting field work and/or organising and running field courses would be advantageous.

About you

Candidates will be expected to have a science-based PhD relevant to environmental science or, if from a professional practice background, a Master’s qualification together with significant professional practice experience. We are looking for candidates with a broad knowledge across environmental science who can deliver teaching on our environmental and conservation science courses, participate in and possibly lead field trips, and have experience of teaching and assessment at a Higher Education Institution. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of devising and delivering teaching. Experience of leadership at a module/programme level would be advantageous.

We are looking for candidates who align to the UWE values. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of leading and motivating groups of people, collegiate working, and organisational skills. They should show how they will stay abreast of latest developments in the subject area and external best practice benchmarks.

The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor. The School provides staff development funds to support personal and subject-related training for academic staff.
