University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for a Research Degrees Coordinator to provide academic and pastoral support to our PhD students and the wider research community at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon (CCW) Colleges of Arts. Working with research teams and wider academic staff from across the Colleges, you’ll seek to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for our community of diverse research students. This will involve settling in and maintaining relationships with students, supporting research ethics, and liaising with teams across the College to monitor student progress.
You’ll play a key role in the onboarding of students, by responding to initial enquiries from potential applicants and leading on the shortlisting and interviewing of new candidates. You’ll also develop and lead the delivery of the CCW research student curriculum, enhancing its quality and ensuring it is continuously updated to meet the needs of each cohort.
In addition to this, you’ll be required to hold regular meetings with PhD student representatives, lead and/or support the Graduate Research into Teaching programme, the annual PGR student exhibition, and other events at CCW. Your work will help to develop an inclusive PGR community, by maintaining and enhancing a positive research culture that ensures all of our students are equipped for success.
About you
You’ll possess a PhD or an equivalent research qualification, along with evidence of the successful completion of the ‘Supervising Research Degrees’ unit at UAL, or an equivalent qualification from elsewhere. You’ll provide previous experience of supervising at least one PhD student to completion as a Director of Studies and will also be capable of developing and delivering an inclusive CCW PGR training offer. Strong project management and organisational skills that can support the planning and delivery of projects will be essential.
