Salary: Freelancer position paid per meter of fabric woven, at least National Minimum Wage.
The role is to produce handwoven fabric on a production wooden handloom under the direction of Isabella Stefanelli. Duties include sectional warp setting, threading, reeding, loom preparation and handweaving for fabric production. The studio is based in Stratford, London E15, at Stratford Workshops. The role is on a freelance basis. Loom setting is paid pro-rata on the total cost of the sectional warp setting process, from warp bobbin winding to setting the back beam. Threading and reeding are paid pro-rata. Handweaving is paid by meter of fabric woven, respecting quality and design.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Hand weaver with experience on production treadle looms and sectional warp setting.
- Confident with loom preparation, threading, reeding and handweaving for production fabric.
- Neat and accurate work, together with the ability to work at a good pace in order to meet production targets.
