Can you help plan and manage a Launch Event? This short-term role is about establishing Spirit Level Youth Construction. We are a new construction skills training provider with the aim of transforming the lives of BAME, male youths (16-24) in south London.

What are we looking for? It would be nice if our ideal volunteer possessed the below skills (in order of importance) and be able to relate the experience of an event planned from start to completion:

  • Being highly organised
  • Being a proactive communicator (by email, in-person, via social media and in print)
  • Being highly detail-oriented
  • Having a flexible nature

Main Duties: What will you be doing? As a very small team currently, we are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Event Planner to help develop and deliver an event to oversee the launch of our new charity this autumn. Spirit Level Youth Construction gained charitable status in the autumn of 2025 and we provide construction skills training programmes, leading to qualification for black-heritage young men between the ages of 16 – 24, who are not currently employed, receiving an education, or engaged in any form of training while living within the London borough of Lambeth (NEET). We are ready to establish ourselves this year and need the assistance of someone who can get on board with our values, mission and possesses the necessary expertise to commit to this project on a voluntary basis.

Recruiting someone with an appreciation of what SLYC stands for in delivering for our service-users – as well as the importance of being able to help build and create a strategy for the charity’s launch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To help deliver this project on time
  • Help plan the occasion on the ground, so this is the perfect role for any Events Planner who loves to get stuck in and help execute a project
  • To elicit interest/participation from the local authority, sponsors, various partners, stakeholders, potential funders, grant-makers, any other relevant/interested parties and also in the promotion of SLYC
  • Be very conversant with social media and digital marketing management

What will the volunteering role offer the student and what will they learn while they are with you? What difference will you make? With your help, we can shape how our charity is perceived by the local authority, our partners, stakeholders, funders, donors, our trainees and the wider public. Your knowledge and expertise will also ensure our launch event truly reflects our charity’s vision, mission and the future goals for our service-users. This is a prime opportunity to build on your portfolio from the initial concept to event completion.
