The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer for the MA Graphic Branding and Identity course. The course explores graphic branding at the postgraduate level, with a focus that goes beyond visual identity, typographic and logo design to become a force for innovation, insight and production. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative and innovative approach to graphic branding practices and visual brand identities. The position invites applications expressing interest in the relationship between graphic branding and storytelling, exploration of cultural meaning-making as a way to push boundaries of design disciplinary knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver graphic branding units across the MA course with a focus on graphic branding practices and familiarity with emerging experimentation in this field, reporting to the Course Leader.
  • Bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at the postgraduate level.
  • Manage and participate in the delivery of student-centred teaching.
  • Contribute to the development of the course curriculum, assessment, quality management and recruitment.

About you:

  • Qualification at undergraduate or postgraduate level relevant to graphic design and branding.
  • Knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience in a range of specialist skills relevant to graphic branding practices and inclusive teaching.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of design research methodologies, brand semiotics and visual language as part of brand storytelling.
  • Previous postgraduate teaching experience is essential, in addition to professional practice in graphic design or equivalent.
  • Ability to cite examples of the branding industry’s future trajectory and engagement with culturally diverse contexts.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of graphic branding practices as they intersect with social justice, climate emergency and other global forces transforming the design discipline.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a student-centred teaching approach, focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
