The opportunity
The Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design programme at Central Saint Martins is looking for a part time lecturer (0.6 FTE) to join our MA Design for Industry 5.0 course team. This course sits at the forefront of new industry, centring people and planet in the future of design, technology and manufacturing. Industry 5.0 emphasises ethics of care, human-centred design, environmental circularity and planetary production limits.
Responsibilities
- Take a student-centred approach to learning and teaching on the MA Design for Industry 5.0
- Collaborate to deliver academic units, including staff-led and student-initiated project briefs, potentially involving industry partnerships
- Provide constructive and considered feedback on student work and conduct assessments that are rigorous, clear and fair, in line with University and College policies
- Contribute to reducing student attainment gaps and reflect on teaching practice through ethics, anti-racism, climate emergency and social justice lenses
- Foster a positive and caring team dynamic among staff and students with a collaborative and friendly attitude
You will design and deliver unit content, teaching, learning and assessment, and pastoral care.
About you
We welcome applications from experienced educators in Industrial Design, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Manufacturing, socially driven entrepreneurship, Circular Economy, Service Design and/or Matters of Care, with a demonstrable commitment to Industry 5.0 principles. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
- Industrial design and manufacturing-oriented social entrepreneurship
- Social anthropology in relation to industrial design and manufacturing
- Software, hardware, IoT and robotics in design and manufacturing
- Applied sciences in cyber-physical technologies
- User-centred design, circular economy, and planetary concerns
- Social entrepreneurship and ethical design-led business
Prior experience and awareness of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level is required, including delivery of workshops, guest lectures and/or conference talks and keynotes.
