Digital & Technology at UAL is on an exciting journey, transitioning from a ‘classic’ IT approach to a user-centred product approach to technology. We are investing in our people, and the processes enabled by digital, to evolve and transform the student and staff experience at UAL.
We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Platform Engineer (VDI) to join our IT Infrastructure Platforms team. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for the design, deployment, management, and support of our enterprise Horizon VDI platforms, with a strong focus on Omnissa (formerly VMware) Horizon VDI solutions.
Approximately 75% of your responsibilities will focus on VDI, including user experience optimisation, automation, and virtual desktop lifecycle management. The remaining 25% will involve managing and supporting the underlying VMware vSphere hypervisor infrastructure that powers our virtual desktop environment. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer passionate about delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing virtual desktop experiences using the latest in VMware/Omnissa technologies. This role is a 3-year fixed term contract.
Experience
- Proven experience supporting and managing enterprise Horizon VDI platforms.
- Strong experience with; Omnissa Horizon, Unified Access Gateways, Connection Servers, Dynamic Environment Manager, App Volumes.
- Solid understanding of Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022/2025 environments.
- Proficiency with VMware vSphere infrastructure for virtualization and resource management.
- Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
- Scripting skills using PowerShell or equivalent automation tools.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals related to VDI, including ports, protocols, load balancing, and firewall configurations.
- Familiarity with endpoint management and application delivery methods.
