University of the Arts London has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified Counsellor to play a key role as part of the counselling and mental health team. As a Counsellor, you will provide assessments, counselling, and crisis management support to students, individually or in groups, working on an appointment basis. You will also work closely with managers and the team in developing the service and good practice and contribute to the strategic development of student support at the university. You will also support academics and other UAL staff in their work with students via telephone and email advice, training events, etc.
Please be advised that the deployment of locations is in process and you will work at no more than 2 UAL sites. The working pattern comprises of 3 days on-site (Tuesday mandatory) and 1 day at home.
About you
You will possess BACP or equivalent accreditation and hold a post graduate diploma or master’s level counselling qualification. An understanding of counselling within a university setting is essential, as is knowledge of issues affecting students in addition to the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students. You will also need experience in providing support in crises and managing emergencies, as you will need to identify, respond to, and refer on students who are mentally unwell or in need of psychiatric support/assessment.
