About the Role
Brighton & Sussex Medical School is seeking to appoint a Senior Medical Statistician and Clinical Trials Unit Director. This appointment will be at Associate Professor or Full Professor level dependent on the experience of the successful candidate.
The UK Clinical Research Collaboration-registered Brighton and Sussex Clinical Trials Unit, co-located with the Department of Primary Care and Public Health at Brighton & Sussex Medical School conducts UK-based trials and other well-designed studies across a broad range of specialties, designs and interventions (e.g. drug and device trials, psychological interventions, digital health).
This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role as Director of the only registered CTU within Kent, Surrey & Sussex, to continue to grow our CTU, deliver and champion high-quality research across the local and regional health economy and develop collaborations with industry.
About You
The postholder will lead their own programme of research, as well as provide strategic direction to the CTU and oversee the team of statisticians, each of whom works on a mix of CTU-based and other research studies. The postholder will also work closely with the Director of Operations, Trial Managers and Data Management Team and represent the CTU at the UKCRC annual statisticians\β network meeting. The Director will bring substantial experience of building and maintaining teams. They will actively seek out opportunities to collaborate with others, both internally within the partner universities and externally to enhance the quality of our research and reputation.
Associate Professor and upward are senior career-grade teaching and research positions and are expected to show academic leadership in both teaching and research, and to support the management and strategic planning processes of the School and the University.
The successful candidate will work with colleagues at BSMS, its host universities and NHS Trusts to undertake research, and contribute to research leadership and research-led undergraduate and postgraduate courses. They will be expected to have a portfolio of research projects linked to their statistical expertise.
The postholder will contribute to the delivery and further development of teaching in statistics across the School, and take a leadership role in providing undergraduate BMBS students with an excellent experience of statistical training across the curriculum.
For Professorial level the candidate will be expected to make a broad and sustained contribution to their field and discipline nationally and internationally, and to demonstrate sustained exceptional performance in research and innovation, education, and leadership and management. They will be required to undertake formal School level leadership roles appropriate to their background and portfolio.
