The role involves the safe and efficient operation of the MicroStructures Study Unit (MSSU) Laboratory. The post holder will participate in experimental research activities of staff and students and will communicate effectively with different lab users. The job includes:

  • Preparation of test samples using conventional and rapid prototyping techniques
  • Undertaking testing using advanced testing protocols
  • Installing arrangements specific for different testing configurations
  • Supporting experimental projects at all academic levels as requested by their line manager
  • Maintaining the testing equipment in excellent working conditions
  • Professional upkeep of the laboratory spaces
  • Working closely with other technical staff to ensure the safe and efficient running of laboratories
  • Showcasing the experimental activities of Mechanical Engineering Sciences in relation to student applicants and external sponsors/clients

About You: The post holder will maintain the MSSU Laboratory and set up and run laboratory tests. They will have good communication and IT skills. A qualification in Materials Engineering, or a similar discipline, is desirable. Some relevant work experience in the fields related to optical or electron technology would be an advantage.
