The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life‑changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve – shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee. Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Facilities Assistant to support the smooth day‑to‑day operation of our Faculty buildings and facilities. Working as part of the Faculty Operations team within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, you will help create a safe, functional, and welcoming environment that supports teaching, research, clinical activity, and professional services. This is a varied and hands‑on role. You will coordinate facilities enquiries, maintenance requests, repairs, and building access arrangements, while carrying out regular building inspections and supporting staff and room moves. Working closely with Estates & Facilities, IT Services, contractors, and other colleagues, you will help ensure operational issues are resolved quickly and effectively. You will also support procurement and administrative activities, operational projects, and space improvements across the Faculty.

If you are organised, adaptable, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in delivering excellent customer service, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in a busy and dynamic environment.

You will be an organised, dependable, and detail‑focused administrator with experience of working in a busy office environment. You will be confident managing competing priorities, working accurately to deadlines, and communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. A collaborative approach and a professional, service‑focused attitude are essential, along with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Strong IT skills and confidence in standard administrative systems are required. Experience of working within facilities support would be an advantage but is not essential, as would familiarity with higher education or a complex organisational environment.

We offer a generous pension, relocation assistance where appropriate, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties), access to world‑class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family‑friendly benefits including an excellent on‑site nursery.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community. We particularly encourage applications from under‑represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
